Why are errors creeping into my drawings?

We have had 2013 for about 2 months and with both of the projects I'm working on I commonly get the message when I load: "Errors detected. Do you want to close and use recover?" When I do there are generally 1 or 2 errors fixed and usually 1 entity deleted.

This happens 2 to 3 time a day.

I am using a brand new system with an AMD FX 8150 Eight core Processor and 16 gb mem (64 bit) windows 7 on a network.

Also: I have to use the repair Autocad file corruption process ( -purge /r ) every week or so, on each (20 mb) file, as it slows down to a crawl.

It also occurs to me that I should mention that I use a 3dConnexion SpaceExplorer which exhibits the erratic behavior mentioned in the Hotfix recently posted (which I very carefully installed, but didn't fix the problem).

I don't know if these problems are connected, but knowledge is power, so...

Same thing happens to me, mostly when i am using the user hole command or A4 or A3 drawing frames.

Bom structure and all other mechanical stuff are deleted.

On my system it happens with 2d and 3d solid dwgs. Drawings with just model space and drawings with both model and layouts.

I just started a new drawing on friday, and it happened twice.

I wished someone from Autocad could wave his wand and fix this thing for me.

Would it be possible to provide the workflow that created the drawings you are encountering the difficulty with?

With what version of AutoCAD Mechanical were these projects initally created with?

It is possible for you to upload a file where you are receiving this behavior?

In regards to the 3dConnexion Hotfix, can you confirm that you had installed the Service Pack 1 prior to installing the Hotfix?

"Would it be possible to provide the workflow that created the drawings you are encountering the difficulty with?"

With what version of AutoCAD Mechanical were these projects initially created with?"

I started a new file in 2013 (I have no other version on this machine. The temptation to revert would have been too great.) I imported a part file (some from STEP, others from Unigraphics, NX). I create a strip (or form and trim process) using that part and then created the solids which make up the tool. BTW, Every file I use eventually develops these problems: 2-3 time a day, depending on how many time I have to reload the parts, it alerts me to errors and I have to recover, and every few days I have to  "-purge" the reg. and follow the procedures given here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=18809891&linkID=9240617 The errors are coming fast and furious lately.

It is possible for you to upload a file where you are receiving this behavior?

I will do so tomorrow. I just spent the day fixing corruptions and overwriting the original files.

In regards to the 3dConnexion Hotfix, can you confirm that you had installed the Service Pack 1 prior to installing the Hotfix?

I installed the hotfix when it first came out. I double checked it when the hotfix said to be certain it was installed.

Thanks for your help.

"I installed the hotfix when it first came out. I double checked it when the hotfix said to be certain it was installed."

That should read: I installed service pack 1 when it first came out. I double checked it when the hotfix said to be certain it was installed.

"The attachment file size is too large. The maximum file size is: 1,572,864 bytes"

The Forum has a maximum file size of 1 1/2 mg. unfortunately all of my files are 5 times that amount. So I so I pasted a single entity into a new file and worked on it until it gave me problems.

This file reproduces the erratic behavior but does not reproduce the errors on loading. That problem has, at least temporarily ceased.

The swivel point is extremely distant from the entities, resulting in the least tilt of the NavCube moves the entities miles away.

Here is the same file with errors.

I continue to deal with errors in the following ways:

I draw in solids for an hour or so, and if the drawing is continuing to behave I execute the AUDIT command to check for errors and run the -purge command to remove Registered App and anything else. Then I run AUDIT again, save, close and re-enter the program/drawing.

If the drawing is showing signs of corruption, (such as slowing, erractic behavior of Nav Cube, or SpaceBall) I run thru the process discribed here:  http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=18809891&linkID=9240617

About twice a day I have to use the deep cleaning process, which means I have to copy all of my entities into a new drawing.

I have been using Autocad since 1989 (Release 9), and I have to admit that 2013 has been the most difficult transition so far.

when working in your drawing, are you importing any blocks from a local library? you may have a corrupted block.

Thanks for your suggestion. The problem occurs whether or not I import anything or not.

For instance the file I uploaded was fine untill I worked on it (slicing, extruding, solid editing, etc.).

Something corrupts and is deleted, but no entities are ever missing from my files.

In all the dozens of file recoveries that I have done, It states that items are deleted, but I have never found anything missing.

A corrupt reg. app?

After 12 weeks of frustration, I am abandoning Autocad Mechanical 2013.

Problem solved.

HI Darnold,

My name is Greg Douglas from GMW Associates.

I have the same problem with some of my files.

On ACAD 2013 the file error checking looks for empty text boxes and zero length lines.

If found in the drawing file then errors are reported.

After the following actions my files do not report errors any more

1. Open file, ignore message to restore file. It does not help.

2, Purge file ENSURE UNAMED OJECTS SWITCH IS TICKED.

This ensures zero-lenth line and empty text boxes are removed.

3. Save File

4. Reopen file, error should be cleared.

Thank you, Greg for taking the time to post a solution.

Every so often, I use Autocad for little things, but for the most part I have abandoned it for drawing in solids, which I am required to do here. (using Inventor)

If I have the problem again I will follow those steps, but none of the files I worked with had any lines or text.

I will say, that in 25 years of drawing in Autocad, Version 2013 was the most frustrating, irritating, and maddening experience yet.

Again, thank you.
