Save as in 2005

You can't open a drawing created in AcadM 2005 and open it in 2004/DX - although this isn't the case with Vanilla AutoCAD. When I save in 2005, the file type defaults to an AcadM 2005 drawing and I can obviously chang ethe filetype to save back to 2004DX, Machanical 6, etc.

My query is this: When I access the open and save options, I can set the system to default to 2004DX on each save. However, when I save as, it still defaults to 2005. Annoyingly, It works as you'd expect if you set the default to 2000. It's not a huge problem but it's a little tedious having to chang ethe file type each time I save.

Thanks in anticipation.

You can use the un-documented instruction AMSAVEASACADM2004DX, in order to store data in the 2004DX format.
