Looking to upgrade software---Which autocad version is best for my company?

Hello,

I work for a small HVAC company. The bulk of our work is light commercial, design build, tenant improvement.

We currently have an outdated Autodesk LT 2006. However, we've recently ran into problems trying to open CAD files sent to us. I'm assuming this is because of our outdated software.

Our main goal is to be able to recieve a CAD drawing of the as builts, or visit the site and sketch in all existing HVAC and equipment, and then be able to modify and implement a proper HVAC system based of the new tenants office layout. Essentially creating our own mechanical drawings.

If anyone can please tell me what version we need, I would greatly appreciate it. Don't think we need anything 3D or too fancy. Just need something thats easy to use and compatible with everyones CAD files. Will an LT version work?

use the latest version I.e. 2014..
