File open dialog doesn't show all files (only the first 500)

I've got a strange problem that I've been unable to solve. We use AutoCAD Mechanical 2013 on 3 of our engineers' computers. One machine is running Windows XP, one machine is running Windows 7 (32 bit), and one machine is running Windows 7 (64 bit). All drawings are saved to a mapped network drive in which they are organized by folder. The main drawing folder has well over 1000 subfolders in it.

Here's the strange part... on the machine running Windows XP, browsing to that folder using the File Open dialog works perfectly. On both of the Windows 7 machines, the dialog box only shows the first 500 folders that are in it. Pressing the F5 key to refresh the directory listing will then show all 1000+ folders and files.

Why does this occur? My engineers are frustrated since they have to open multiple files every day, and each time, they have to refresh with F5 to see all the files that they need. Thanks.

You may want to check the status of the MAXSORT system variable.  The link below will provide additional information:

MAXSORT on all 3 machines are set to the same number: 1000. I checked out the systems again today to gather more information. I was wrong about the number of files that show up before the F5 refresh on the 2 Windows 7 machines... it's not 500. It's precisely 451 files on both of the Windows 7 machines.

Also, browsing to the same directory in Windows Explorer doesn't cause the issue. It shows all 1000+ files immediately. Other programs have no problems listing all the files in the directory either. I tried Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Notepad, Wordpad, and Adobe Reader 11 and they all listed the directory completely without issue. It ONLY occurs when using the AutoCAD file-open dialogue.

Help a frustrated IT pro. Thanks!
