    explination of plot map sets

I am having trouble using the plot map set feature of map 5. I am new to the "mapping" part of this all. Can I get a SIMPLE explination on using plot map set, i.e. how and what to define, or is there something better out there?
    Please use plain text.

Plot map set is cumbersome and un-intuitive. There
is no simple way to explain it.

I agree with Neil, and will add that when Map clips the map to a boundary
for a page, the ltgen for polylines is turned off, so if you use a
non-continuous linetype for hydro, winding roads, etc. you're screwed. It
also won't clip blocks, as I recall, so you either get all or nothing. Map
sets is kind of like the new COGO in Map 6. Looks good to list as a feature
in the advertising, but is useless in practice.

Well explaining on the NG and finding the answers are not easy.

But this should be easy enough to follow for the answer you are looking for.

    GOTO http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/item/0,,2268329-123112,00.html
    Download and map4ug.zip
In there you will find many PDFs the one you want is MAP4CH13.PDF
The section you want is "Defining a Map Plot Set" print or read through this
    section.

I didn't get it until I ran the Tutorial. That would probably be the best
    place to start.

There are pluses and minuses to the whole process that will be apparent when
you figure it out. Sometimes the pluses are also minuses depending on how
    you look at it.

I have no problem with plingen staying on. Most likely you have the wrong
scaling set on the linetype. When you set your linetype through the linetype
manager on the Standard Toolbar, there is the button to Show details. If you
click on it you are given the option to use paperspace scaling units or
model space. This caused me to almost give up on using plot map sets till I
figured that out. Check out some of the map areas at this web site. There
all done with a customised plot map set. It doesn't take long. One morning
and all the maps are updated. True they are crude and the base maps don't
quite jive with polygons but that is in the lack of quality in the
    bases(free).
