Hi, at startup I was getting a thing poping up asking me to select the workspace I wanted to use. I already had my custom workspace developed and wanted to use it. To get rid of the nagging startup box I just picked one. Now it takes me to some other workspace and I have to select mine every time I start Acad. I just want to be able to load into my custom workspace. There doesn't seem to be any straight forward options for this.

Seems that if I had selected Map Classic workspace from the beginning I could have avoided this problem. Is there any way to change the default workspace to map classic or reset the box on startup that asks what workspace I want to go with for Map 3D 2012?
I found instructions on setting the default workspace buried in the CAD help files. Per the help file, to have a particular workspace start by default when you open CAD, you need to add a cammand line switch (a /w switch) to your desktop shortcut.
Right click your shortcut icon for launching CAD, then select "Properties." Under the "shortcut" tab, find the "target" field, which should have the following syntax: "drive:\pathname\acad.exe" and add the following: [/switch "name"]. So, if your custom workspace is named "MyWorkspace", your target path (under properties) would be something like: "C:\filepath\acad.exe" /w "MyWorkspace"
Hope that helps.

Yeah, I did that and it works fine but its still bringing up the ribbon too which is what I wanted to eliminate. It is now bringing up an empty ribbon so I know the cui is not loading all the ribbon stuff. Sounds like other people in my office are having that issue too. I personally don't use the ribbon at all nor menu's which it seems Acad is trying to get away from by substituting the ribbon.
I can do my work fine, its just kind of a annoyance when the ribbon pops up everytime I fire up Acad. I can just close the ribbon every time for now.
Thanks
I believe that turning the ribbon on and off is controlled in the CUI editor. Type "cui" in the command line and hit enter to open the editor. On the left side, click on your custom workspace. When you do that, you should get a "Workspace Contentes" window in the top right. From here, expand the "Palettes" option, then click on "Ribbon." The ribbon properties should show up in the lower right portion of the window, and the top option is "Show." You should be able to set this to "no" from the pulldown menu, then hit ok. That *should* get rid of the ribbon from your custom workspace.

This may be a dumb question, but are you currently in your custom workspace? The name of your current workspace should show up at the lower right corner of the main CAD window.
Also, are you using "partial customization files?" The following is copied from the CAD comments regarding the "partial" files:
Note: If you define a workspace in a partial customization file, you need to transfer the contents of the workspace to the main customization file so that AutoCAD can display the customized workspace. Use the Transfer tab in this dialog box to move the workspace.
I don't use the partial customization files, so I'm not really familliar with them, but it looks as if they involve some extra steps to make them display correctly.

You can try the following: http://gisexchange.typepad.com/blog/2011/05/map-2012-default-workspaces.html
But there's a "by design" behavior that will restore the Ribbon regardless of your CUI.

Yes I am in my space however unless I use a startup switch it will not let me load directly into my workspace. It always wants to start me in the workspace that I chose after installation (the spash screen that won't go away antil you choose something, so I finally did).
I have a feeling that got locked in somewhere w/o an option to go back and change it.
I do use a partial cui but only for some toolbars and keyboard shortcuts, nothing ribbon or workspace related related.
Since you're using the partial CUI, did you transfer the workspace contents to the main customization file? The note about that seems to say that CAD can't display your workspace correctly from a partial customization file unless you've transferred it in.

Just tried it, it didn't ssem to affect anything. My custom cui was working fine too. It sounds like the ribbon popping up is just a new uncontrolable thing. I can still use acad fine, just have to close the ribbon everytime I fire up acad so its more of an annoyance than anything.
Both issues described, not bringing up your default workspace, and the ribbon popping up in the classic workspace, have both been confirmed by Autodesk as bugs in Map 2012. Cross your fingers for a fix in the first update.
