AutoCAD Map 3D

I brought in a SHP and have pretty fancy style with a label. How on earth do you save these? The style library does not work for SHP files! HELP!!! Map 2009.

You have to save the connected data to a .layer file. There is no way, at
present, to save a "style" to be used for another feature layer.

It seems to me that the layer file assumes you are connected to the same data. Am I correct with this?
I want to save the style to use in a similar (but different starting data) project.

The .layer file has 2 sections. One is the layer definition (identical to MapGuide), the other is the feature source (also somewhat identical to MapGuide).

The feature source section describes the connection settings (in this case, to your SHP file). So all you have to do is just change the file/directory path to point to your new SHP file(s). This is assuming the new SHP is structurally identical to the existing SHP file.

Because if you have style rules on properties that don't exist in the new SHP file, there will be problems.

Other than what Jackie wrote there is no way to apply a style you set up in
one feature connection to another feature connection. The layer files are
the key to enhanced stylization and "right now" there is no UI to create and
save styles.

Thanks for the info, I'm getting warmer...which is good cuz its -11F (not counting windchill) where I am!

I'm wondering where the best way to edit the *.layer files is. Just crack'er open in notepad, then?

Notepad is what I use, just watch any of those xml editor they can corrupt
the file. Then keep an eye on my blog in a few days it may heat you up
faster than a magpie on a hot stick.

No news on saving feature styles ? I'm using map 2012, but i've not finda a way to apply the same feature style from a feature to another. Is'n there a command like matchprop ??
