Map3D 2013 Service Pack 2 Warning

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just a word of warning to everyone regarding Map3D 2013 Service Pack 2.  One of our users got tired of the constant reminders about the update and installed it.  She hasn't been able to open a drawing since without getting fatal errors and having Map3D crash.  She's had to uninstall and reinstall Map3D as a result.

No word on where to bill the lost time.

She installed it right from the notification that kept coming up in Map3D.

I install the service pack 2 on two different PC’s with Windows 7 64 bit and have no trouble with opening a DWG. Does she send an error report so we can analyze the issue? In case please send us the report number to search. If the issue is related to the data, it would be nice to get on of the DWGs. If possible put it on A360 or send it offline.

There were a number of reports in sucession each time she tried to open the drawing.  We have no record of the CER's.  We didn't write the numbers down and she didn't include her e-mail address in the reports, so no confirmation was received.

We'll try to include an e-mail address in the future.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reporting this, and I'm sorry to hear about the trouble. But we need to narrow this down a bit.

After installing SP2 for Map 3D 2013, your

ABOUT should show G.204.0.0, HF1

(MAP_BUILD) should show 16.0.200BI

Next:

Are these crashes coincidences, or definitely related to the service pack?

Are there any commonalities?

  • Is it a localized (non-English, International) version of Map 3D that is crashing?
  • Is it crashing with drawings that contain a certain object type (e.g. MPOLYGON)?
  • Something else?

I just opened five different existing DWGs and have not experienced a crash yet...

Hello from France

For French people with French MAP 2013 who have the problem (not everyone) :

- Fatal Error when launching AutoCAD MAP French 2013 + SP2

with Click on the MAP shortcut or click-click on a DWG ...

Using a Windows Restore Point to get back to MAP 2013 French + SP 1 = No Problemo !

Sorry, I can't give you more Info !

Bye, Pat

PS1: I have several PCs with MAP 2013 French + SP 1  BUT  I don't install the SP 2

because I am very careful / paranoaic !

PS2: waiting for Autodesk ...

Phil,

Sorry we aren't always able to fully document all the details of the crashes.  When a crash occurs, the first reaction, beyond muttering explitives under our breath, is to get the drawing open again, figure out what we lost and get back to work.  I realize that knowing EXACTLY what happened is key for Autodesk to figure out what caused a crash, but so often we do everything we can to document the details of a crash that happens over and over, only to hear nothing.  I'd say the crash reporting built into Autodesk products has to improve.

But back to the SP2 crashes.  I know the drawings we were working with had external connections, such as a to a WMS server.  I'll try to find out some other details and post an update.

Phil,

I asked about the drawing that we could not open.  It had 3 data connections 1) Basemap Services - Bing Map  2) SQL Servier Spatial and a WMS connection.

Once we installed the service pack, trying to open the drawing crashed the program.  It kept trying to do a recover on the drawing but still couldn't open it.  Meanwhile, Civil 3D could open it.  Going back to the same drawings with SP2 removed, we can open the drawings, but the connection to the WMS server is broken in every one of the drawings that SP2 touched.

Hello from France

A nice Info for the European Autodesk Support Team (I presume) ...

<<< Olivier dixit >>>

After speaking with the Autodesk Support, the problem comes from the file :

"AcMapLoader.arx" which is into MAP : C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Map 3D 2013

So you have to SAVE this file then APPLY the SP 2 then RESTORE the "old" file "AcMapLoader.arx"
NOW It's OK (the SP 2) on the Olivier PC !

NO relation with third party applications !
<<< Fin >>>

Please let us know if it' OK for you ALSO ???

Bye, Pat (Thanks to Olivier)

Hello from France

Latest Infos on the problem with the SP 2 for MAP 2013 :

The problem is linked to the number of PATHS in the MAP 2013 Support Paths !

If you have too many Paths (about 10-12), you will have a crash when launching MAP + SP 2

The workaround, usind the previous file "AcMapLoader.arx" is OK !!

Bye, Pat (Thanks to Olivier)

Thanks everyone for contributing to the discussion. Great example of good troubleshooting and community support!

Development has been made aware of the issue and has temporarily pulled the service pack. When it is re-posted, you should get an in-product notification.
