Could AutoCAD Map displays USGS maps as black and white?

yes  if you data connect and style with GreyScale

Grey display doesn't look very good. I tried that! Is there anyway?

• try to save USGS maps as Geotiff onto your hard disk
• extract the Worldfile with GeoTiffExaminer
• convert in B&W with Irfanview, and save all with CCITT compression
• embed back the original Worldfile with GeoTiffExaminer
• _MAPIINSERT the georeferenced mono map
