opening and saving files etc

basically not really sure whats happened, the pc crashed a week or so ago and since then when i go to open a file or save as or insert and image etc it no longer opens up a seperate window where i can choose to get things from or save them, instead it wants me to type them into the dialoge box which is a real pain, anyone know what i can do to change it back to how it was?

Just as an addendum. When this does happen you can enter a Tilde [~] and it will open the standard Open/Save  dialog box.

System crash while in Map3D, cancelling out of some commands, improper coding in a custom lisp or addon routine, theres a few other things that can cause it also.
