Mike, another way to do it is open the dwg thast has the layers in that you want, select eveything on the layer(s) "Quick select works good for this" then use the copy with base point command (Edit pulldown menu) and select 0,0 as the base point.
Next open the dwg that you want them copied to and paste to orginal cordinates. Like most evertything else there are more than one way to draw in AutoCAD it's up to the user what way he/she likes...

That's what I have done for a couple of years. But I think that map has a
lot of capability, I just haven't spent any time until now to learn it.

Thanks for your response.

Dear Mike:
Puedes usar las propiedades de transformación simple que puede tener cualquier dibujo asociado. Con esta tool puedes definir el offset, scale and rotation de each drawing para que al consultarlo, se mueva, rote o escale. For do it, clic right button mouse over the associated drawing and select Properties.

Hi Mike,

here are the steps to doing that:

1. open the DWG file you want to insert the layer
into...this can be a blank DWG file as well

2. in the Project Workspace, righ click on
Drawings, then select Attach, find the drawing with the layer you want to copy,
click on ADD, and the OK

3. next, still in the Project Workspace, right
click on Current Query, click on Define, select Property, then Layer, click on
Values, select the layer name to copy, click OK, OK, under Query Mode click
on the radio button called DRAW, and then click on Execute Query

4. in the Project Workspace, right click on the
drawing file you just attached in step 2, and select Detach.  This way you
will not alter the source drawing in any way if you decide to play around with
the imported layer entities.

Steps 1-3 allow you to bring an exact copy of all
the items on the selected layer into your current drawing.  This can be
done for several layers.  As you learn more you will be able to query items
from different drawings, layers, even by selected area.

I have the same question. I have done the steps
you suggested, but my layer imports to some
corner of the workspace. Is there a way to have
it import on to the map?
Thank you

I am having the same problem. It puts the imported layer off to the right side and I am unble to see my original map. I need to import hydrants to my main map.

Are both dwgs in the same coordinate system? Is a coordinate system assigned to both dwgs?

Yes. They are both LL84. The hydrant file was originally AL83-WF and I
changed the coordinate system to LL84.

How did you change the coordinate system?
