Weird Shape file import problem - Help Help

When I try to import shape files I get the warning "Invalid data or no data found". There are shape files there, and when I go to a different directory with shape files, it sees those. When I copy the shape files AutoCAD recognized in to the problem directory, it doesn't see them. What is going on?

PS, When I put the files it can not see in the directory that it can find the shape files, it sees them just fine.

Hi Patrick,

The error message you report generally occurs when
one of the shape file entities is missing.  You need to have the SHX, SHP
and DBF files in the directory for Map to see them.

I hope this helps,

Thanks for your suggestion, but all the files were there. I still can't figure this one out.

Patrick,

are there differences in the path names used for these folders like long
files names, extended characters or similar?

Not really,
here is the path that works:
G:\Ecotone\Clients\Colorado DNR\AAA Projects2001\MuellerVEG\GPS\Export

and here is the path that does not work:
G:\Ecotone\Clients\Colorado DNR\AAA Projects2001\SanLuisLakes\GPS\Export

I apologize, I just tried the whole routine again and it worked OK this time. I guess it could be anything, such as the attempt to open the xyz Shape files that failed in the other problem I reported "Shape file import but missing attributes" may be related, or not. If I find something systematic about this I will report it.

Thanks
Pat

Hi Wendy,
You were right, but did you know that if even one of the .dbf files is missing, the whole directory (even if there are some complete sets of shape files) becomes unreadable.
