Surface representation, can it be done?

Hi!, I'm not a regular MAP user, so please excuse me if I say something
crazy.

My file has the land contours at 0 elevation (Z axis) but the Z value is
included as data object. Is there any way to generate a "skin", mesh for
render purposes either in MAP or 3D Studio MAX for later animation?

Alfonso hello,

The first part of my answer is no, you cannot create topographical surfaces
in Map.
But, you can use your Map to help prepare your data for another software
(LDD, Quicksurf, etc.) that will create the surface. To do that you need to
attach your file to another project file and query your contour lines using
"Alter properties" to import the lines with the heights saved in Object
data. You can find more help about the process in the Map tutorials.

I hope this helps,
Arad

Arad,
i am not generally a 3d user, but have lots of AutoCAD data with elevation values. I'd like to know more about export file formats that other programs can use to make surfaces. I don't have Quicksurf, but do have ESRI products, can i output to a TIN somehow? Are there any plans to integrate TIN like features into AutoCAD map?
thanks
Chrish

Chris hi,

I am not a user of ESRI products myself, so I dont
know much about how to export 3D information to Arc-View or
Arc-Info.

You need some kind of application in AutoCAD or Map
(Like Quicksurf or LDD) to prepare your 3D data to represent 3D surfaces and
then you can export this surface in a number of ways: Contours, 3D-Faces, Meshes
etc.

You might consider exporting the base 3D data
(Points and Discontinuity 3DPolylines) to your software and computing the
surface with it's tools.

If you want to try some procedures you can send me
a small data file and I will send you a resulting export of some
kind.
