Shape file will not import

When I try to import a certain shape file, AutoCAD Map does not recognize the file. The error message says there is not any valid shape file in the folder. I tried the convert to shapefile command in Arcview 3.2, it did not have any effect on the import attempt.

Make sure all three files (shp, shx, dbf) are in the same directory when
you try to import the shape file into Map.

Which version of Map are you working with? Map's old import/export
module which can now (since Map 2000i) be accessed by typing MAPIMPORT4
in the command line doesn't support 3D shape files. Having such a file
could cause the mentioned error message as well. Having Map 2000 or
earlier running the solution would be to save the shape file as 2D in
ArcView. With a more recent Map version use Map's new import/export
module (Map > Tools > Import or type: MAPIMPORT).
