Rubber Sheet

Hi All,

Am working in a City Map.Boundary Areas of that city
is not completed. So I just scanned images and inserted
in those areas to add roads using Rubber Sheet Transformation. After the images inserted I just digitize
the roads over the image. So this process continues inserting images/digitizing. I just want to know is there anyother techniques replacing this manual work. Or else
tell me what are all the things that I should taken into
account to make this work INTELLIGENT.

Thanks in Advance
RK

RK, the rubbersheet command in Map is intended for vector objects, not
raster images. If you want to rubbersheet raster images, you need Raster
Design

If you want to digitize roads from scanned images, do them manually, or
Raster Design has a digitize feature.

Zach,

Use rubber sheeting when attempting to get two or more different data sets from different sources to align geographically: for example, when stretching a new subdivision map into a preexisting parcel map

These are the words in help i found out.In this they
haven't mentioned anywhere we can't use raster for rubbersheet

In general, rubbersheeting is the last refuge of
the desperate. I would be very wary of rubbersheeting your data to match the
images unless you are 100% certain that there is no distortion in your
images.

Try and make sure your data is in the same
coordinate system first. If you have to rubbersheet then for some reason your
data is skewed (or another word that rhymes!).

Also, you should be able to buy data sets
containing information on roads that you need; consider if that is better than
spending all that time digitizing. Also data sets that you buy often have
attributes already associated with them; so roads might have names and other
info in place. there are lots of data vendors out there; if you live in the US
try ADCi (www.adci.com). There are several
others such as GDT, and all can supply the data in DWG format, oir at worst
Shapefiles. These vendors have often cleaned up the data already and added
attributes. If not in the US, try your national mapping agency, such as the
Ordnance survey in the UK.

David
