Rotating Map in Mapbook 08

I hope someone can help. I've looked online, but I can't find any answers.

I'm having trouble creating a map book where north is rotated in the view. I've tried using ucsfollow, and the ucs command to rotate the map correctly, but when I try to create the map book the map doesn't show up in the main viewport.

Does anyone know how to rotate the map when creating a map book? Or does anyone know of a tutorial I can watch that covers this.

Thanks in advance,
-Matt

What happens when you go to the layout template and set the view port ucs it
the direction you want then save it?

I tried that, the ucs is rotated but the view is not rotated.

In the template I set the main viewport to the correct scale, the correct ucs rotation, and turned on ucsfollow.

After creating the map book, the ucsfollow is turned off.

I am fairly new to map and was wondering the same thing. We are doing an overall storm drainage map for a town and need to generate roughly a 100 sheets, but the map book wants the sheets to be rotated to ucs and not the way we want (which is a twist view), any way around this? We are using C3D / Map 2008.

I'm also having problems when labelling linear assets when the UCS is rotated. The label isn't aligned with the asset, its rotated with the UCS.

I've tried changing the rotation angle in the label menu, but it isn't doing anything.

Any Ideas?

Matt,
Can you provide me with some samples of what you are trying to do or the
steps you are using and what you want the out come to be?

I've attached 2 SDF files. One is an existing grid and the other is a road network. They are in UTM83-17.

To match the existing serving sheets the map has to be rotated to line up with the existing grid. To do this I've done the following steps:

1. Created a viewport in paperspace
2. Turned ucsfollow = 1 in that viewport
3. Used UCS XY to rotate the UCS to match the existing grid

After the UCS has been rotated and the scale corrected I turn on the Labels for the Roads SDF. When I do this the label should be aligned with the asset, but they are not. They are rotated based on my ucs rotation.

Is there another way to rotate the map without losing the correct coordinates?

Matt,

Unfortunately the Tiling Scheme is missing a Rotation option.

This could then be equated to a DVIEW TWIST in the layout viewport.

Good wish list item.

On the other hand if you must get this done, here's a possible workaround.
Warning: It is not pretty.

Once the map has been completed you can use the command
MAPEXPORTCURRENTMAPTODWG. Geospatial Workspace - File>Export>Current Map to
AutoCAD DWG (Exports styled map to a drawing file)

Open the file created and remove the coordinate system, enter a period ".".

Create a new file, attach the exported dwg.

In the Define/Modify Drawing Set select the Drawing Settings button. Right Click
the Drawings heading in the Map Explorer tab.

Select the attached drawing at the top of the dialog box and toggle ON Simple
Transformation.

Change the Rotation to 17.3.

Click Apply, Close and the OK buttons to exit.

You can then Add Drawing Data> Query Source Drawing - Location - ALL in Display
Manager

And finally....create your Map Book.

Any update on this? I really thought mapbooks could be rotated, but clearly my memory was in correct...

bump

I've been trying for hours, setting the same UCS rotations in both the template and the source.  It just doesn't want to handle this.  You'd HOPE that the routine would be intuitive and rotate with the Indexes that you've selected but that would be too easy.

I am running with ACAD Civil 3D 11 and this issue still seems to have not been addressed.  Does anyone know of a better workaround?
