Projection

Hi
Can any one help me I am a new user of auto desk and I am trying to project my data to another coordinate(UTM,NAD 83) what are the procedures I tried the assign coordinate process but it seems not to have worked.

You need to set the original coordinate system in
the drawing your working from. Close that one and start a new drawing. Assign
the system you want to be in to the new drawing. Attach the original drawing to
the new drawing and query in what you want converted. It should come in the new
coordinate system.

Warning! This only works on X,Y. There is no way to
convert the elevations to an new datum in Map.

The units for the elevations can be changed through
the coordinate transformation process, if you would like for them to be
changed.  There is a setting under MAP Options ( can't remember which tab
off the top of my head) that controls whether elevations are
transformed.

Just FYI

I think what your talking about only works when
importing DEMs. There aren't even any settings to tell the software what you
want converted. Unless they are assuming that if you are going from NAD27 to
NAD83 you want to go from NGVD29 to NAVD88. But this doesn't work anyway. I've
tried multiple times. My reseller even got suggestions from Autodesk. No luck.
The underlying files needed for the conversions are there. They just don't
work.

I've had to resort to other software to do the
conversions.

You are right, the only thing that gets converted
is the units if you are going from meters to feet or vice versa.  Sorry, my
mistake.

No worries about making a mistake. I just want
people to know what they're getting when they do a coordinate transformation.
The only reason I knew it was that I was trying to use some
NGVD29 elevations to check some suspect elevations in  NAVD88 and
found out I couldn't convert the datum's in Map.
