Plain AutoCAD objects to MAP

I have received a DWG with plain CAD objects e.g. open polylines (defining linear water features) and closed polylines (defining land use areas) and I need to use this info in map for buffer/overlay analysis.

How do I go about preparing this data for use in MAP as described

Thanks

Assuming that it has been MAPCLEAN'ed - how do I get it into map layers/themes etc

If you have simple entities from "vanilla" Autocad, my advice is:

1] _MAPCLEAN in order to prepare those entities to Map's environment
2] _MAPTOPOCREATE in order to get only good geometry for further operations in Map
3] _MAPCLPLINE to obtain closed regions with area&perimeter attributes (for polygonal topologies)

To give GIS data to those objects, you have two ways (I use Map2006, but I guess the newest versions behave similar):

4a] _ADEDEFDATA and _ADEATTACHDATA (manually)
4b] _MAPATTACHDB to link to an external database containing attributes, for instance made by Excel or Access.

Mapexport to SDF or SHP format. Then data connect to that data.

OR

Connect to a new blank sdf and select create new feature from geometry.

Thanks for this Murph - I'll play around with MAP/CAD entities and see how far I get
