Merge

Dear All

Does anyone know if AutoCAD Map can merge many DWG files at the same time??If this is possiable, how will I start? Because I never used this software before, and I don't want to export these files into shp foemate.
Thanks for your help....

Alex,

I'm not totally certain on what you mean by merge,
but if you are trying to create one dwg from many it's not a problem.  If
all of the drawings share the same relative coordinate space then you can attach
them to the work session.  Then create a query that grabs all of
the entities and their attributes and places them into a new drawing.
Save.

Steps for attaching drawings and creating queries
can be found in the Map Help.  Also, if your drawings are in various
coordinate systems you will find information on how to assign a coordinate
system to the work session.

Hope this helps,

Kevin

Hi Alex,

As long as all drawings share the same coordinate system, you can just
"insert" them all together into one drawing using the "Insert" command.

For example, make a text file with the extension of SCR (Script file)
and place these statements within:

Example: INSALL.SCR

Insert *DWG1 0,0,0 0.0 0.0
Insert *DWG2 0,0,0 0.0 0.0
Insert *DWG3 0,0,0 0.0 0.0
Insert *DWG4 0,0,0 0.0 0.0

Here DWG1, DWG2 etc represent your drawing name (without the extension).
Give the full path if they are located elsewhere. Note that the SCR file
should not contain any additional characters (like spaces) than
required.

Once you run this SCR file (with the SCRIPT command), all your drawings
will be inserrted in the current drawing. Just do a "Zoom Extents" to
see everything.

Alternatively, you may use the GeoTools program (see URL below for eval
download). GeoTools has a Multiple Insert command under the Build Tools
that allows you to select a number of drawings in the same system and
insert them all together.

Rakesh
