Mapimport shapefiles customization

Dear all,

I'm working on a project where ESRI shapefiles are used in AutoCAD Map 3D 2011 under Windows 7, using the mapimport command. Now I've read the customization of the mapimport.ini, and I've altered the multiple file input to the folder input as indicated, but was wondering whether it's possible to standardise more of the options given in this function. For instance, can the .ini hold a line to automatically dictate that object data should be created? Or that drawing layer should be lifted from a standard attribute? Those two options would save a lot of time!

Cheers!

Hi,

not the MAPIMPORT.INI is the file where you can store import-settings, but if you start command _MAPIMPORT, do your settings for one file, look to the buttons for saving the settings in that dialog. That gives you the option to creae an IPF-file (that holds the import options), you can modify that as it's nothing else but a XML-structured file. Just import that file in the next call of _MAPIMPORT.

To run that with more files you might use that IPF file also when running _-MAPIMPORT (first you are asked for the datatype (SHP) then for the filename and then to load the IPF-file.

To import mif/mid, you can define the encoding in Driver options.

MAPIMPORT_Driver_options.png

But this definition is not saved to the ipf settings file...
And, for example, to import shp, the Driver options button will be disabled.
These options are probably enabled only for text data files.
