Labelling features from object data

I am using AutoCAD Civil 3d 2009. I have a bunch of shp files that I have been using to create drawing via FDO connection.
My problem now comes in the form of a client who wants to have digital dwg files that they can manipulate themselves after I have created them. They do not have map 3d or civil 3d. So, I need to import the shp files as closed polylines instead of connecting to them. This is fine I just create an sdf of the subset that I want and import that with object data. No problem.
My problem now lies in the fact that I need to:

a. label features using the object data (there are sometimes hundreds of features that need to be labelled so doing them individually is not an option.
and
b. Query using object data in order to change line weight of (in this case) roads that have a certain classification.

Does anyone know any way of doing these things?
I have tried to create a query in the Map Explorer > Query Library but when I choose data as the query type and object data in the following dialog there is no object data table present in the drop down.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you in a new dwg that you attached the dwg to that you imported the sdf
into, or in the dwg that you are trying to query?
There's about a dozen ways to get what you want.

You need to attach the dwg to another dwg to query it unless you want to
mess with all the tools in the display manager.

Ok I opened a new dwg. Went insert > dwg reference and selected the dwg I want to query.
Then I tried the query from the map explorer and there was still no object data table in the drop down menu.

You have to use the MAP ATTACH not the insert/xref command. In the Map
taskpane on the Map Explorer tab click on the data icon and attach source
drawings.

Thank you for the information. I inported a shape file that was all the sections in the state. I needed to lable each section. It would take a day at the least to write in the section number.

First I saved my drawing (ie Drawing #1 copy to make Drawing #2).
Next I attached drawing number two using the task manager - map explorer
Then I ran the quary for the lables, selection window or all; text, and the hard part to find the property "lable" to select.
Clicked draw and hit execute.

I have all my sections labeled.

Thanks for the help.
