Internal Error !scandr.cpp@1408: eHadMultipleReaders

Using AutoCAD Map 2000 R4 on WinNT4.0, Dell Precision 420 Workstation,
880Mhz 256Mb

While running the plot map set command on drawings that contain a lot (over
200) queries and boundaries, I keep getting this error message, then AutoCAD
locks up and cannot continue:

INTERNAL ERROR: !scandr.cpp@1408 eHadMultipleReaders

This only happens while running the plot map set command, and only when
working with large datasets, queries & boundaries. Any help for this??

Thanks,

David

Hi David,
This error typically result from a corrupt drawing. Several other users
have reported the same error when running the plot map set command and were
able to resolve the issue by performing an audit and recover. Please see
technical solution TS67106 (
http://support.autodesk.com/getDoc.asp?id=TS67106) for detailed explanation
of corrupt drawings and techniques to recover.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your reply.

I had previously suspected a corrupted drawing, and ran recover and audit on
all the drawings in the map set - however no errors were reported. I then
tried inserting all drawings into new drawings, and wblocked out the new
data to new drawings, so all the data was completely fresh and rewritten.
Then, I ran recover and audit on all the new files. Again, no errors were
reported, and the drawings open for editing and save without any problems.

I know the plot map set command is kind of buggy. For example the number of
queries/boundaries that can be selected in the query & boundary selection
dialog boxes in one step is limited to 88...you have to do multiple
selections...this is a windows programming error in AutoCAD. Also, the
layout in the Plot Set Options dialog doesn't always save...it keeps
changing to other layouts.

I'm thinking there is some other bug here that may be causing this problem,
since it only occurs in larger files. Assuming that drawing corruption is
not the problem, what else could cause this error? Is there a limit on the
number of boundaries and queries, or plot map set definitons (or a
combination of these) that can be contained in one drawing? I use the plot
map set command on many files of geographic data sets in the same manner
without problems - it appears I run into this error only on drawings that
contain 200+ queries and boundaries in drawings that have multiple plot map
set definitions.

David

Hi David,
The other option (which will be harder to nail down) is a memory conflict
with other applications. Can you please provide a list of other
applications on the machine (Example: Ms Excel 2000). Also, try plotting a
map set in safe mode. Here is a little background the type of error you are
receiving.:

SCANDR Scan Database Record

This indicates that AutoCAD has encountered an error while
attempting to update its temporary files at run-time. While the
AutoCAD Drawing Editor is running, AutoCAD frequently has to mark
changes and new additions to the temporary files containing the
present "state" of the drawing database. If any of these attempts
to update the drawing database or to update the files referenced by
the Drawing Editor fail, AutoCAD may abort with the above error.

If these errors happen frequently it may be a symptom indicating another
type of
problem, such as a hardware malfunction. If the cause of these errors is
because
of hardware problems, it is most likely a result of AutoCAD writing drawing
data to bad sectors on the hard drive. Running SCANDISK may help
in marking bad sectors.

Try recovery on the drawing. If that fails, then try using ddinsert to
insert
the bad drawing into a new start from scratch drawing. That is your best
chance
of recovering the drawing.

Suggestions for improving the chances of limiting the re-occurance of this
error message is to remove the virtual paging file, safe boot the system,
run
SCANDISK, reboot the system again in safe mode, rebuild the virtual swap
file to
be 3 to 4 times the ram.
