Hello all,
I've been asked to create a map indicating the major highways throughout the state of Michigan. I've searched discussion groups & google for downloadable blocks. Unfortuantely, I haven't had any luck finding any... Does anyone happen to know where I could download standard US highway road signs?
Thanks,
Robyn
Have you tried using the SYMAP text style? Lower case "m" is the U.S. Highway symbol, and lower case "p" is the Interstate Highway symbol. If you center justify them, you can put center-justified numbers (also SYMAP) inside the symbols.
Hi Robyn,
You haven't posted if the above response worked for you. Just in case it didn't here are two dwg files that I use in location maps that are usually 1:500'000, so you might want to play with the scale to suit. They are a bit more simple in style, but easy to insert as you just click where on the road you wish to place them for the insertion point. Then text edit the road/hwy number.
Horbad,
Thanks, these helped me too.

Hi Robyn,
I have never been able to find good pre-made signs either. What I have found is that the FHWA and the local state DOT's put out some pretty good guides for manufacturing these signs, and you can use these to draw them up. It takes a bit of time, but it will give you a really accurate sign in the end.
I attached the FHWA Standard Highway Signs Chapter 3 here if you are interested. The first sign in it is the standard "interstate highway" sign. It looks like you can look up the specific MDOT highway signs here: https://mdotcf.state.mi.us/public/tands/plans.cfm
Look under "Traffic Signing" and then "Standard Highway Signs" and click on the search button.
Hope that helps.
Norm
Edit: just noticed this was a 2013 post!
Do you have access to ArcGIS? It is supperior to AutoCAD for making maps and there is a full set of road symbols that would accomadate your needs.
