Find Drawings by Geopgraphic Location

Hi

We have THOUSANDS on AutoCad drawings of city infrastructure.

Do any tools exist to find all drawings within a radius from a given map location?

Thanks

It is not clear. Is it about querying
after opening a drawing?or you want to search the directory for
Drawings?

For the first case ofcourse there is
a tool.You can do a location query.With a circle-either objects enclosed inside
the circle or crossing the circle are retrieved. You can specify the radius of
the circle

Stuart,
no there is not a tool that comes with map that gives you the drawing you need to attach for the query (us much as I know)as tharakesh said you. the problem is if you attach all the thousands of drawing before you make the query you will get out memory (or wait all the day for de/attaching and the query will not be efficient. our solution was to build an external dB with the extention of each drawing and in the other hand a standard folder tree were each folder contains only drawings containing certain layers of the infrastructure. then you first query (lisp, vba etc) from the dB which dwgs are in your location and which of them may contain the layer you need. then make the attach & query just for those files. good luck, Roby Israel Electric.

Hi Stuart.

As Tharakesh stated above, if there is some sort of
'keymap'
you could do a simple 'buffer' query to
return the dwgs.

If this is not what you are after, maybe you could
share some more details as to what exactly you are trying to
accomplish.

There are many different methods that could be
applicable depending on what data is available.

The same issue the world over!

We wrote an application for Map 1 to log drawing
extents to a (then DBF, now MS Access) database and on-the-fly determine maps to
attach/detach.  There is a download on our web site (under downloads
/ IMEMap) but it's probably not updated for Map 5 on the web site.
Let me know if you are interested and I will recompile and post the latest
version.
