I am trying to import a Shape file and extract the attribute data associated with the 'lines' (sewer pipes) into text format.
for example a pipe has an attribute showing the pipe diameter and intead of having to manually type it out I would like a way to extract that information.
Is there a way to do it? Whether using a specific method during the importing of the Shape file or another process?
*I use AutoCAD Map 3D 2011.

how would you like to extract the data?
you can style the data and make labels, open the data table and select records and exprt to .csv, open the .dbf file in excell, paradox, access or other db programs among the ways.

Why not just opening the DBF-file (from the Shape-dataset) with Excel or Access?

Why not attach to the SHP through the data connector then label the pipes using the styling pane. You can set the Font, Size, and atrributes you would like to show.
Another option is to import the SHP into a drawing with the attributes, save the drawing as PipeAnnotation (Or something of that sort). Open the dwg you want to have the labels, in the Task Pane click the Map Explorer->Drawings->Attach. Find the PipeAnnotation.dwg and attach it. Now under the Query Library right click current query and click define. Click Property under the quert Type area, choose layer and find the layer that contains your pipes. Then click Alter Properties then click test and fill out your information. The run your query. The route will not allow you to have the text rotated via the object though.
You could try importing the shape file with OD. then do the following:
1. MAPANNTEMPLATE (name a template)
2. MAPANNTEXT (create text based on any of your attributes in the object data tabe. You can create multiple lines of attributes as well)
3. MAPANNINSERT (select the object in the dwg that you want labeled.)
You can also modify the template (size of text, layers, etc.) then use MAPANNUPDATE to see the changes reflected in your dwg.
