Keifer,
try our Technical Solution 5758:
When you encounter a VBA error and get kicked out of the installation,
there are serveral things you might need to check before reinstalling
AutoCAD R14 or Mechanical Desktop R2.0 on a machine:
1.) Does the machine have Office 97 or AutoCAD R14 on it? If the answer
is yes, look for a file, called FSIVBA.DLL. If you find the file, rename
(e.g. FSIVBA.OLD) or delete it. Next, uninstall AutoCAD R14 first before
you proceed with the following.
2.) Clean up your registry.
WARNING: Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows registry
could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft® has
provided a wealth of critical information you need to know about the
registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base at:
http://support.microsoft.com/support.
Use the Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up
the registry as well as the System.dat and User.dat files as outlined in
the Microsoft Knowledge Base ARTICLE-ID: Q132332 TITLE: How to Back Up
the Registry. Additional information about the registry is also
contained in the Help topics in the Microsoft Windows Registry Editor.
a.)Go to DOS PROMPT and execute REGEDIT.EXE
b.)Select HKEY_CURRENT_USER
c.)Expand the subdirectory, SOFTWARE
d.)Expand the subdirectory, AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop
e.)Delete those entries under the directories
f.)Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
g.)Do the exact same things as c to e.
3.)Delete the unwanted file folders.
a.)Go to WINNT directory or where Windows NT is installed
b.)Select PROFILE directory
c.)Select ALL USERS
d.)Select START MENU
e.)Select PROGRAMS
f.)Delete those associated with Mechanical Desktop or AutoCADR14.
4.)Check if the user has administrator privileges.
5.)Delete any junk files under c:\temp
6.)Make sure the operating system has the proper service pack:
Windows NT4.0 -> Service Pack 3
Windows 95 -> Service Pack 2
Windows NT3.51-> Service Pack 5
7.) One customer has reported that installing the VB5.0 Runtime Library
resolves the problem.
Notes: One word of caution on editing the registry. If AutoCAD Map is on
the system you need to make sure you delete the correct keys in the
registry.
Another item worth nothing are networked clients using Novell. If the
user has client version 2.5 this installation failure can occur. We've
had sucess in bypassing this error, by removing the clinet 2.5 and
higher, and instaklling the Netware client 2.3 or Microsoft Netware
Client. Then reinstall AutoCAD. Once this completes sucessfully, you can
update your netware client back to version 2.5
