Error adding large DEM

I am trying to attach a Surcae Data Connection to a DEM that is 100km x 77km. I keep getting the error message "There was a problem adding data to Map." I have set the projection. I have also tried a changing the source DEM sizes - 100m grid and 1000m grid.

Also tried GeoTiff and ESRI asc formats. Still same error message.

No clue what the problem is here.

Using Map 3D 2012 64 bit on Windows 7

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

as you create the data could you create a DEM that's very small in data-amount and upload it here?

So we can try it on our versions.

I cannot seem to add any DEM through the AutoDesk Raster for FDO, even one's created by Civil 3D DEM export.

Hi,

>> I cannot seem to add any DEM through the AutoDesk Raster for FDO

And you see a lot of information what FDO tells you as reason(s) why it can't import/reference?

The more input we get the more answers we can give back .... just "can't" or 'didn't" is not enough info for us.

BTW: the best would be to create a small file and upload it. If it's small we can't use the data itself, so don't worry about data. But we can look into the file!

Odd, I was certain I had uploaded sample before. Here it is again.

I do not see any info from the FDO transfer. Where would I find this?

Thanks

Hi,

if I look to the file it's no DEM-file, it's just a colorized rasterfile.

When I try to connect to it via FDO, I get it connected, the file knows the coordinate-system (UTM84-175), but the pixels represents colors an no heights (that's what I see and how FDO interprets them)

Apologies, that was supposed to be a DEM. Zip is attached.

Hi,

Ok, I'm running Civil3D2012 on Win7x64 .... look to my video and let me know what you did in another way 😉

For me it's working as normal.

Something strange going on. I am doing the same thing to load the DEM. I recently installed Mapguide Opensource and that affected my projection search location which I had to correct. Maybe the same thing is going on with the FDO process location, I will have to look.

Thank you for reviewing this and providing the video.

I will respond when I find a solution.

Hi,

if you have troubles with ccord-systems plus you have MapGuide installed ... maybe >>>this thread<<< is a help?

Good luck, - alfred -

That is the thread I referred to to correct the projection issues. I had a look for any FDO refrerences in the machine path, nothing. Searched the registry, nothing. It is in C3D support path (..\bin\FDO I believe). Did a repair of Map3D installation, still no luck.

SHP, SQLite FDO's work, not Map3D 2011 or 2012 (Map 2011 used to)

May have to run a full reinstall.

Thanks

I tried adding the DEM on in install on my laptop. Did not work on that install - did not have mapguide on that machine.  I installed the Infrastructure Suite - Perhaps that is the problem?

Did you check for the MENTOR_DICTIONARY_PATH on both systems?

Do you get anything more verbose in the error log file?  Are you storing the images locally or on a network location?

I did not change the MENTOR_DICTIONARY path on the laptop. I checked and there is no MENTOR_DICTIONARY environment variable set on the laptop. The log file is not verbose at all, even after I changed the Map 3D system Log file message level setting to 'Level 2: Error, warning and diagnostic messages' - I have even tried clearing the Map Cache from the system tab.

The DEM is stored locally.

Finally, success!

I had to uninstall and reinstall Civil 3D 2012 and Map 3D 2012. This seemed tocorrect the problem. I can now connect to and shade a DEM of 70km x 110 km.

Not certain what caused the problem, but it is working now.

Thank you all for your input.

Chris
