DOWNLOAD CONNECTED WMS IMAGES

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to download images to my hard drive so that I have connected to a WMS server to obtain?  Basically I am wanting to be able to send an autocad drawing with an aerial image to someone that does not have autocad map, and wanted to know how I can download the image so that I can send it to the person with the autocad drawing so that they can see the same aerial image that i do.

If you wanna download online geo-imagery, you should look for WCS servers, not WMS, because the latter only "answers" to your queries without sharing any files.

As an alternative in Gis opensource environment, you can link to WMS servers, and "grab" the screen content to a Geotiff file, but the resolution will be low, depending on your screen, e.g. 1600x900 pixel.

How do you add a WCS server to autocad? I can see WMS and WFS servers as an option to connect to but not a WCS.

Once you connect and stylize your map with the images you can save the map to AutoCAD Format. Depending on your version as to how to export/save as dwg. Once you do that it creates an image file (png) that you can sent to the users along with the dwg. Also look at the Etransmit command.

Hey Murph,

I am actually so glad that you responded to me. I use to read your blogs for information all the time.  I do have a second question to ask if you would be willing to answer that is completely off topic of the question that started this post.  My question is I understand how to work with DEM's that I get from this website  http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/   and what I mean by working with them is generating contours from the DEM's and coloring the elevations.  However Kentucky puts out information as found here http://kymartian.ky.gov/  which has older information and new information is found here

I have talked to you a few random times on the phone before and was wondering now if you could tell me when the DEM data and aerial photo data for project area #2 as mentioned here http://kygeonet.ky.gov/kyfromabove/  is available for download yet?

Jon,

There was no aerial photography acquired for Project Area #2. We only captured LiDAR in that area. About 1/3 of the DEM is complete for the area and it can be accessed from this URL. The remaining elevation data has been captured but it is still being processed.

Thanks Kent! I am now wondering if there is a way that I can download this DEM data so that I can use in Autocad.

Currently, you can clip out a maximum size of 20K x 20K from the image service using ArcMap. 5K tiled DEMS will be available for download by the middle of the year.
