Adding key values to existing object data

Hi,

I have an existing drawing with object data assigned to a couple of hundred
objects. I want to export the object data to a Access file and attached this
to the objects. I have managed to export the object data. This created a key
field and filled it 1-100 in the Access file.

To attach the external database to the object data I understand that I need
a key field in the object data table. I am looking for a way to create this
key field without having to select each object in turn and type the key
value in.

First prize will be getting a command to auto fill the field, second prize
would be to find a way to edit the object data in a table like a spreadsheet
format, without having to select each object individually.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Sean,

Have you tried converting your object table to "Database links". This option is
available in the Map menus and with this, your object data gets stored as an
Access table and at the same time Map will generate a link to your AutoCAD
objects using an internal key (like the 1-100 that you mentioned).

Unless I am missing something, this is what you need.

Regards
Rakesh

Hi,

Thanks, I had done that and thought that it had not worked. Now that I know
how to use external databases I see that it did work.

Thanks for the help

Sean
