I am currently running Civil 3D 2010 64bit, I have Access 2010 64bit installed. I am having trouble connecting my access data tables to my drawings. I am able to attach the database but I cannot access the data tables. Can anyone give me some pointers as to how to do this. I know my old access used a .UDL file, is that still needed?

Hi bandit1965,

Regarding part 2 of the question about UDL files (Universal Data Link) - think of them as shortcuts for the ODBC connection & before MS changed from JET direct to ACE drivers for ODBC connections, you could drag & drop a database and the software would automatically generate a UDL.  I'm not sure if still UDL's are still required. 

You might also look at using connection strings versus DSN's for connectivity...

I had the same issue prior to unloading Office 2007 / installing the 64-bit Access driver / reinstalling Office.

I tried the drag and drop method. The database was attached but there was no link to the tables in the database so I don't think a UDL was created. I have installed the 64 bit office and a 64 bit Access and I am running Windows 7 64 bit and C3D 2011 64 bit, it's all 64 bit but no action. I am sure it's something I am not doing right or not doing at all, I just don't know what it is.

instead of drag'n'drop:

from data/connect to data create an ODBC connection.

Instead of using a DSN name, change the drop-down to "Connection STring" 

try this:  Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};Dbq=C:\mydatabase.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=;     

after the = sign, change from C:\xxx.mdb to your database path.

note that if the MDB file is actually a geodabase, there are other issues at hand.

What is your data source for the MDB file?  Personal Geodatabases use the MS Access file format (same extension) but it is different than just an ODBC to Excel - you may need to look at the threads regarding geodatabases & FDO. 

How large is the .MDB?  can you post it?

I can't post the access file, it does not like the extension. I don't believe it is anything special. It is a file I have carried along for years and through different version of Map. I could ZIP the file and post, let me know if that is ok with you.

I was able to connect to it with setting up a DSN from "ODBC Data Sources" from control panel, so I would suspect it's a driver issue. 

Did you uninstall the 32-bit office?  I'm not sure the 64-bit driver will install directly over without the 32-bit being uninstalled first 😞

Our IT guy uninstalled the 32bit suite and installed the 64bit Access 2010 (stand alone) and the 64bit Office Home and Business 2010 suite. If you connected it must be something I am doing wrong on my end, I am also assuming the insatll went correctly.
