When AutoCad 3d map had the 32 bit system, there was a 3GB switch to allocate more memory for AutoCad. Does anyone know if there is another switch for the 64 bit system with 8 GB of memory? I have very large files which freezes AutoCad when it calls for more than 3GB's of memory.

If your Windows is a x64 one, and you have 8 GB Ram, I bet that freeze is NOT a memory issue, sir.
1] unplug your Ethernet cable
2] switch your antivirus off
3] defrag your hard disk
4] ensure you have enough free space in your TEMP partition
5] run Ccleaner many times until you get 0 errors
...and try again: any changes?
Windows Version, cpu, total memory, graphics card, etc
based on my experience
2012 and xp = heartburn
2012 is ok with Win 7 Pro but still isn't happy
2013 & 2014 work only with Win 7
This has been tried, and it didn't change the problem
Between my post and yours I see only 8 minutes, whilst the above 5 steps need (at least) 1 hour of hard IT work...
If you wanna get helped, you outta do exactly what we advise: no room for jokes, sir.
Hello from France
So you have a 64 bits PC with 8 Gb Ram and of course 64 bits version of ACAD / MAP / etc ...
I have 2 PCs 64 bits (Win 7 Pro) with 8 Gb Ram
On these PCs I have already seen the "ACAD.exe" 64 bits Task using about up to 5.0 - 6.5 Gb without any problem !
You don't need any special parameter !

C'est vrai, monsieur!
Moreover, dear Celeste, after you deeply defragged your hard disk, you can set a fixed swapfile as big as 2x Ram.
Doing so, when the physical memory will be filled up, Windows will supply to Autocad a lot of additional virtual space.
