Updating already linked Excel Schedules

I'm working in ACAD MEP 2008 and have used the feature for Pasting in Excel Worksheets. Everything has worked fine for the most part.
My problem is if I add columns or rows to schedules that I've already linked to AutoCad, when I pull up the file, the schedule has either "expanded" or "contracted" to keep the same original "size" it was inserted in as.
It gives the schedules the appearance of looking in the "fun house" mirrors. The only way I've been able to get around this is to delete and re-paste the excel file.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've got a couple of guys going into training next week on ACAD MEP 2008. I've already told them to ask the question. I'll post the result.

Hi dbooze. I am actually enquiring about something else. I am used to drawing 2d in MEP and just using lines and symbols to indicated electrical equpment.
I am now trying to use MEP's equipment, but I can't seem to insert in my drawing; any tips?
Also I think the function that you can convert existing lines to circuits is amazing. I tried, but it just does not do anything. I did make my own voltage definitions; what else do I have to do to have a working system?
Revit I feel is much easier.
