Is there a way to turn off the, for lack of a better word, connection indicator ( the triangle with the exclamation point inscribed in it) as when drawing control schematics I use a lot of blocks I have created and these marks get in the way and clutter up the drawing while working on it.

You can use the command: SolutionTipsToggle

You should also be able to find the toggle on the ribbon > View Tab > MEP View panel > Solution Tips
