Can't edit fittings within the Properties Dialog box

I'm sure there's a toggle somewhere for this. But I can't seem to edit fittings within the properties box. If I have a transition that's 30 degrees, I can select the angle and make it 15, but it doesn't change or do anything. If I actually click on the part shown above, I can find the angle and change it there... just not in the first properties box. Anyone come across this?

Is there a duct segment (or pipe) connected at either end of the elbow?

I forgot about this question, but now that I'm doing some more BIM jobs, it's come back up. Yes, the problem seems to be when I have duct connected to the fitting. I can easily modify an elbow or transition if it's alone within the properties dialog box. But if the elbow or transition has ductwork attached, it won't change.
