Autosave takes too long in 2013

We just upgraded to the 2013 version of AutoCAD MEP and I am having an autosave problem. I have the autosave set up to a folder on my C drive (not going to the server) at 10 minute intervals. The drawing I am working one was originally started in AutoCAD 2004 and brought into AutoCAD MEP 2012, then into 2013. After this last upgrade, this drawing now takes 2 to 3 minutes to do an autosave. I did not have this issue in 2012 so what has changed? This is not Revit MEP.

The file size is 8773KB.

The computer is: Dell Precision T7500

Intel Xeon CPU Es645 @ 2.40Hz RAM

Video Card is NVIDIA Quadro 4000

12 GB 64 Bit system

Windows 7 Professional

Bump it up!

I too have a client with the same problem.  Any ideas as to what to check?  Is this a commonly reported issue worthy of a Service Pack?

One thing we found as a workaround: turn off creating a BAK for the Autosave, then autosave time went fast.

You mentioned the file originated in 2004.  What happens when you select all.  Copy to clipboard. Start a new 2013 file, and paste to original coordinates?  Does the new 2013 file autosave quickly, without unchecking the bak options?

Update: We had a false positive show up with the BAK being turned off.  It seemed to help the timing, but I think now that was because it wasn't writing out both the BAK and the SV$, so seemed faster.  We started a new dwg with the AMEP2013 templates, all new modeling, and it is still much too long for the Autosave.  Where the regular SAVE takes 5 seconds or less, the autosave will crank for 90 seconds or more.

To date what we have tried:  Insured no annotative adoption from xrefs, insured all layer names are standard (no funky characters that can happen when dwgs are brought up from older releases), purged purged purged, offed BAKs, offed everything under Options/Open-Save/File Safety Options (except the Autosave itself), ISAVEPERCENT was set at 50 so we tried 0 with no difference, no support folders are pointing to the network so all are local, created a new Autosave folder off of the local C:Drive.

I did create my next drawing completely from MEP 2013 and even with the setting changes suggested by Dennis, it still did a slow autosave.  This drawing, about 1/4 the size of the one started in AutoCAD 2004 still took about 90 seconds to autosave.  I tried the program on another PC and loaded the same two drawings.  The MEP 2013 saved in mere seconds and the original culprit drawing saved in about 20 to 25 seconds.  Now this could have been due to the overal size of the drawings (3GB to 12GB) or the old version to the new version but either way, I now think the issue is a setting on this PC causing the slow autosaves.  If you have any ideas what that setting could be, I would appreciate any any suggestions to correct this.

When is the last time you cleaned out your Windows Temp folder?  That may affect the auto-save performance.  Open up any Windows Explorer dialog, like MyDocuments.  In the address bar, type in %temp% and tap enter.  Select all and tap the delete key.  There will be some files that do not delete and are in use.  Skip over them, reselect all, and delete again.  Repeat each time a file cannot delete till all are gone, except the files in use.  That should pick up the auto-save performance.

Presuming that you did a mosttly default instalaltion for 2013, the cloud and content explorer crud is hogging resources on your machine. I'll suggest that you eliminate both of them, uninstall as required. I'll also recommend going to the Manusoft web site, and get a copy of Owen's tool for removing the Communications Center. That's another unnecessary drain on your PC's computing and network resources.

This worked for me.
