is there a place where we can all submit 3d Mvparts that we create? -- If not... can we make such a place and is anyone else even interested in this? -- I know that a common complaint made by myself as well as those who post here most frequently is a lack of 3D content in the form of Mvparts. Maybe if we all start submitting our standard non proprietary Mvparts to a central location it would help to make other's jobs easier. I know we all wish that Autodesk would just give it all to us, but they didn't and the way i see it... why is any of us reinventing the wheel... we're all in the same boat... we all need these mvparts. -- What about you autodesk? will you give us a location to put these ABS specific Mvparts if anyone is even interested in this? -- Those of you who have done this for a while, would you be willing to submit Mvparts? -- Am I insane for wanting this and or suggesting it? I'd be willing to spend two hours a week creating some new part to donate to the cause and would even take requests... that's 52 parts a year just from me... that's what I have to offer.

Hi Bil -

We've talked about this a number of times, but as of yet haven't been able
to accomplish anything :-(.

That said, I'd be willing to try and put something together on my home
machine to host these parts. It won't be anything fancy, and won't be
extremely fast, but at least it would be a place to put stuff. Also if we
ever get a "user content upload" site finished, we could use what has been
posted as "seed" content.

If you're interested please lemme know.

who are the "we" in your reply? Autodesk, or the folks who post here frequently? -- Of course I'm interested in anything that resembles what I've discussed in the above post. -- I'm no expert with ABS... only been using it since mid May or early June... but I'm pretty handy with creating 3D parts and upon grasping the best methods to create a useful Mvpart or Library or whatever... I'm sure that I could whip out some useful parts each week. -- but none of this matters until the rest of the folks weigh in with their thoughts -- if no one else sees a need for this then I'm just wasting time... hopefully the others will be on board... I'll check back tomorrow on this post and see if anyone showed interest... then maybe we should chat more about it. -- thanks Jason.

If there is enough interest, we may be able to get
a newsgroup for ABS that is similar to the arch-desktop.content but specifically
for ABS.

Cheers,

I would be very intrested in this newsgroup, although I won't be able to contribute as much as bil-with-one-L I do have some already made MVparts made.

Hey Guys,

I'm currently a AutoDesk Revit, one of
many anticipating the eventual integration of Building Mechanical
Systems features into the Revit Building Information Modeling system. I
think it's great to see users freely exchanging custom content, which has
become a characteristic of the Revit user community. I'm surprised there's
not a Adesk BMS "customer files" newsgroup.

As a resource all have access to
AUGI - the AutoDesk User Group International - at

href="http://www.augi.com">
face="Century Gothic">www.augi.com
. The
site includes AUGI Exchange, where users can submit files and other info to a
searchable database. maybe this would be the place to get
started.

How do we get in on this, I for one would be VERY interested in doing
this. As I am sure this is the direction in which Autodesk and the users
are going in the future anyway. It would be GREAT to get in on the
ground floor.
Thanks

Rob:

The first thing to do would be to
download the software and check it out. There are sample models of several
building types available. The development plan for Revit is reported to include
structural, mechanical, and electrical design features, but the BMS features are
probably several versions away. It's still not too early for BMS users to start
lobbying their interests.

Revit is distinct in that a
building entire database is contained in a single file.

face="Century Gothic">Revit BMS users will design their systems by accessing
information directly from a shared 3d model.  Fixture locations, materials
of construction, room dimensions, its all there. The drafting and document
production features are obviously already in place.

It's interesting that so many users in
these disciplines "get it" when it comes to 3D. Revit is targeted at the
majority of Acad users who only use CAD as an electronic drawing
board.

I have been researching this topic for the better part of this afternoon, and I take it that it still has not happened. I have not been using ABS05 for very long (Jun 04), but once I get up to speed, I will definitely have some MvParts. I am currently looking for 14" and above BHP (Butterfly High Performance) valves. A job that I am currently drawing in 2D, is very tight, and I need all the information that I can get. I am using the spec sheets I have on the valves, but (like I said earlier) I have not had a chance to try and figure out how to create a MvPart from scratch. I am self teaching myself this program, other than the general overview that I received at my ABS 05 training. Any amount of help would be GREATLY appreciated. As I become more proficient with this software, I am sure that I will be able to contribute.

This has been discussed just in the last week or two. The thread you just replied to is over a year old. FYI: Post MvParts here in this discussion group, prefixed with "MvPart: " in the title of the post. So, for example, a supply diffuser the post might be titled: "MvPart: My Cool Supply Diffuser". -- R. Robert Bell "eyesaqua" wrote in message news:1998436.1090867089118.JavaMail.jive@jiveforum2... The folks at the Autodesk Users Group (AUGI) are revamping their Exchange application to incorporate MVParts. There is has been no indication on when it will be completed.

Hey guys,
Someone mentioned Butterfly valves. I ran into the same problem. I was working on a central utility plant design and piping that is up to 30" in diameter. I noticed that the standard ABS catalog was defined in an *.xml file but it only went to size 12".

I wound up creating a supplementary catalog that was custom sizes; 14" up to 30" butterfly valves. I drew each of the valves in solid modeling from the manufacture cut sheets with proper dimensions and all of that, then I defined the MVblock views from that 3D model of each of the valves.

The cool thing about this is that each of the valves was not just a MVPart, it had the connectors defined at the appropriate lengths and the schematic symbols looked right and the top views were standard 2 line, but the best part was that I found a few interferences (valve handle) that I normally would not have seen if it was just regular 2D drafting.

Custom content? Hell yeah!
Valuable to others? Possibly some day.
Should this be shared? I would like to think so.

Not only that, but I also had to draw the following:
• Custom Chillers
• Custom Cooling Towers
• Custom Air Handlers
• Custom Air Compressors
• Custom Expansion Tanks
• Custom Split Case Pumps
• Custom Air Separators
• Custom VFD's
• Custom Electrical Pull Boxes
• Custom 55 Gallon drums
• Custom Diesel Generators
• Custom Radiators

The list goes on and on. I realize that I might be using some of these items in future projects and that I should organize my drawings a little better. But there is a lot of content that I made. I could share it, if there was a place to put it all.

Well let me put it this way. The piping layout, and the HVAC that you see along with all of the equipment took me about 40 hours worth of work. The majority of that time was spent on creating the MVparts equipment.

However, I have to be honest, I have spent over 300 hours total time on this model. Don't get me wrong, the initial production was fast, but the constant tweaking and design changes that occur durring the life of the project is where all of my time was invested. What you are not seeing is the entire building model. That image is only the ground floor. There is a bunch of stuff on the Roof, and even more in the basement. Anyway, you get the idea.
