Server VS. Autocad MEP General statement and Question

For the past several months My coworker and my self have been having Numerous trials with AutoCAD MEP 2012 and it is real unusual as the commands which are causing the problems are real common commands like the extend command for instance when invoked and used with a right mouse click so I would be able to extend a group of lines to various objects causes my machine to hang for a few minutes. Now I have said all of that to ask this... We are on a company server and is it possible that there is some application running on it which could be causing AutoCAD to misbehave?

Dave and my self have both now have had our machines O.S. Re-installed and autocad MEP re-installed now these are supposed to be "clean installs" I am beginning to wonder about this as Dave and myself are still experiencing lots of weird behavior with autocad. When we first got these computers they were pretty fast now they seemed to be bogged down by something and it is really affecting our ability to be productive, Please if someone knows something about this network question I have asked please please help, I really think it has something to do with the server or some of the software that have been put on our computers to interact with the server because that is the only thing we have not removed from our systems, and we were also wondering if we should run a separate server for our cad stations isolating us from the main server????

Thanks Pete

Hi Pete,

Most people do not install AutoCAD MEP and work direct on a server.  They install on a local workstation, desktop or laptop.  Yes, servers do have processes and reports that can bog them down depending on what kind of server it is and what it is being tasked to do.  Sounds like you need to install on a local machine.

All Three of us have our AutoCAD on local machines and our files are on a network server, and I and my co-workers have been having some major bog down issues and we are suspect of the server as we are all linked to it (we are not to confident in our IT provider) like I said on the forum three of our 4 machines have been re-formatted and CAD is more glitchy than when we first installed it originally installed it then we migrated 2009 cui files that is when the fun began (we now know better). We were supposed to get a "clean install" of the o.s. and Cad but I am not sure as they loaded windows remotly on my machine as opposed to using the oem disc for windows 7 64 bit. So if you know of a list of things we might check which are known to cause conflicts would you please pass it along this is just getting so frustrating for all of us and it is causing us to fall behind in our work as establishing a smooth work flow is just not happening for us we are constantly waiting for something CAD related computer locking up for 5 mins at a time using the extend command and it freezes the machine for another few miniutes, trying to change the properties of our printer while printing through the model space layout causes my machine to fatal error out and when I have more than one window open in CAD it will randomly switch to the first window I had open, and similar things have been happening to my co workers as well.
