Receptacle Blocks

I have been asked to provide a view of the ABS standard out of the box
Blocks. I opened the Receptacles.dwg file located under the \Autodesk
Building Systems 2004\R16.0\enu\Aecb Content 4\Electrical\Devices.

In doing so, I discovered that the blocks were located directly on top of
each other. After separating the blocks, I noticed that there was TWO of
each. Does anyone know there are two blocks of each??? Also when you list
the block, there is no associated style to the block, but if I insert a new
block into the same drawing, it gets a style assigned to it.

Hi James -

The placement of the blocks inside the source drawings makes no difference.
The application uses the block definition, not any instance of the block
inside the drawing. You can even delete all occurrences of the block in the
drawing - the content will still work as long as you do not purge the block
definitions. This is true for all ABS content.

The blocks, being "piled up" on top of each other are the result of a last
minute script that redefined the blocks so that they would behave with
layering properly (the so-called "ByBlock, ByBlock, ByLayer" script).
Originally, the blocks were all spaced out so that you, as a potential
content creator, would know what is in the drawing. But this was
inadvertently obliterated by the script - I apologize for the sloppiness.

Devices can support numerous blocks. Out of the blocks, most devices
contain a plan block, usually a 2D symbol, that is designed to be
appropriate with wiring schematics, and a 3D model block, designed to
participate in any renderings/3D views.

I hope this helps!

Hey Guys,

I have searched up and down the internet and clicked countless buttons, but I cant seem to find the answer. Here is my issue, I want to create a custom set of 2D symbols/blocks to represent various receptacles, fire protection, etc. I want these symbols to show up as 3D devices when in 3D view.

I have attached an example file containing a default receptacle that showcases all the features I need.

My question is, how can I create custom blocks for my company that function just like the standard blocks/receptacles that came with the program?

Any and all help would be immensely appreciated, I am a new intern at this company and they have stuck me on a seemingly insurmountable task. Please help guide me.

Thank you,
Sinan Najm
