In AutoCAD MEP 2014, I have figured out how to create a hyperlink attached to a device object (in this case a lighting device), and how to follow that link. This is really great functionality but what I really want a hyperlink that is defined in the style based properties (i.e. not object based properties)
A solution involving setting the full hyperlink in the style property set data is okay. Even sweeter would be a solution that creates the URL from a base path plus a field retrieved from the style property set data. I would like the hyperlink to be accessible with the control click option.
I have experimented a bit with property data fields but haven't got it all figured out yet.
p.s. I can't believe "AutoCAD" is not defined in the spell check library!
There is no built in function that will apply a hyperlink to an object. You will need custom programming to achieve this. Adding a hyperlink to an entity is an easy task in the .net programming language. You could write an event handler that will monitor the drawing for any device that is added. Once a device is added you could cross reference the device style against a list of styles and hyperlinks and then add the correct hyperlink to the device. This would effectively create a hyperlink based on the style of the object.
thank you, good information.
After some experimentation I have deviced that the best way to satisfy the goal (which is to allow users of my drawing to navigate to product information hosted on my web site) is to provide the links in the device schedule. The URL path is based on property data. I can easily build the URL with a forumla property, but I do not know how to set it up as a hyperlink. Is the technique you describe above relevant to the task of associating a hyperlink with a schedule?
