Fittings

"Sheet metal contractors buy almost all of there round and oval duct work.
You barely have any of the industry standard fittings. I would be nice to
see all of the fittings in the fitting libraries."

Hi Shawn -

Would you mind giving us some specific information on what fittings you
would like to see. Virtually all of the ductwork fittings in the catalogs
have been taken directly from manufacturer's catalogs.

"There are a couple of fittings in particular.

There is a straight tee where all three outlets are the same. I would like
to see the same tee but with the option to change the branch size. A lot
like the round duct transition straight tee but without the transition.

The next fitting would be a tee with the branch set to 45 degrees.

The cross fittings have a lot of the same problems as the tee fittings do.

The oval duct system only allows you to tee into it with another oval. I
would like to see a round branch option. Right now if I want to tee off of
an oval I have to put in a oval tee then transition to a round duct. I want
to be able to come off of an oval duct with a round branch. "

Thankyou

There are a number of them I'm assuming we are looking at something like
the Round Duct Straight Tee

> I would like
> to see the same tee but with the option to change the branch size.

Which with our catalog structure means that it is a "transitional" tee. I
could be way off base, but I think if you want the above tee you can get it
with the transitional tee by setting all of the connectors to the same size.
If you want the branch connector to be a different size then you can set
that as well.

Try this for me, insert the Round Duct Transition Straight Tee with D1, D2,
and D3 all set to 20" It looks just like the "standard" one. Now if you
change D3 to, say 12" it changes the branch size, but leaves the "other
sides" alone. Is that anything like what you are looking for?

I guess I'm confused here. There is no transition in this case. D3 just
"fits" into the Tee

Yea, we need some 45's

Still confused about this from above?

I'm assuming that you want to use Tee's here rather than takeoffs for a
specific reason? You can use a round takeoff in a oval segment. I'll add a
wishlist itme for this one!

Shawn,

I would also like to see a 45º take off which I have to use quite a bit for
exhaust duct systems. My workaround for now has been to draw the center
line layout of the piece of duct with a line coming off of it at a 45.
Then I turn the whole thing into a custom fitting. The only problem I have
with this is that if I need to change the size of the duct or branch I have
to make a new fitting.

Hope this helps a little

With the round duct straight tee there is only one size option for all three
outlets. I would like to be able to give the main one size and give the
branch a different size. If I want to use the round duct straight tee I have
to put in a transition for my branch if it is smaller then the main. The
problem with the round duct transition straight tee that us suggested is
that if you set both main sizes to the same size the fitting does not come
in symmetrical and the engineers do not like how it looks.

The thing with the crosses is that they are a lot like the tee. So what ever
changes you make to the tees please consider doing to the crosses. Such as
adding 45 degree branches.

Thanks

In response to a private e-mail...
Yes, the round duct transition tee will work but if you look at it in 2D one
of the two sides on the main is longer then the other. With the round duct
straight tee the 2D view is symmetrical and that is what I am looking for, a
tee that looks symmetrical and will allow me to specify a different size for
the branch.

Ok, so my line diagram didn't work, but I want all tees to be symmetrical
when bisected through the line teeing?? in to the main run. Weather all
three connections are the same size or not

I get it 😉

This is actually a defect in these parts. The "shoulders" should be the same
size, and I've logged a defect against this. I've been playing with some of
the formula used to get the Tees to work and haven't managed to fix it yet,
but I have managed to break it.

I'll let you know what I find.

Shawn -

I took a look into the manufacturer catalog that this tee was based on. It
shows the tee as you describe it (hence Jason's bug is not a bug but
as-designed). I think you are looking to make a tee that looks right rather
than perhaps representing this very specific tee. I suggest you use content
builder to make new one that meets your needs.
