Duct connection problems...

Here's the deal... I've got two duct styles... one is a 2-line, the other, 1-line. I'd like to be able to connect a 1-line duct to a 2-line duct. (I'm using style-overrides for the 1-line duct). The problem that I'm running into is this, whenever I select a 2-line duct to connect to, the "new" duct is auto-magically converted to the 2-line duct style. First question... Is this possible to do?? If it is, HOW?!?!?

Thanks in advance!
Sincerely,
Confused in CT

Hi Matt -

What's a 2 Line duct style? A duct style is neither 2 Line or single line
but just a style.

If your ductwork is all "slip joint" for example, then any segment that is
the same size is by definition the same style. If you have a 24x24 segment
in one part of the drawing and a 24x24 segment in another part, applying a
style override won't work, because they are the same style.

Is it possible to do what you want? Maybe, I'm not sure I understand what
that is yet???

I think what he is asking about being able to do is have duct appear as both
single line and double line in the same window/viewport on the same
sheet/tab. I have not tried that here, telling everyone that drawings had
to be either single line or double line but not mixed (in the same
viewport). After thinking about it, perhaps it could be done using
overrides. Would have to create new system definitions assigned to their
own new layer key styles. (for example: something like supply single line,
supply double line, return single line, return double line, etc...). Then
pick a display configuration or create a new one as needed where you could
be sure your overrides on the systems would display as wanted (example:
supply single line would only show center line while supply double line
would have most turned on/set to show). I will check with the owner here
and see if it is something he would be interested in exploring and repost if
I actually get into it and find a way to work it out or get close. Perhaps
someone else has already found a way to accomplish this in an easier fashion
than creating near duplicate systems also, this was just off the top of my
head without the program in front of me.

You can use two different system definitions as Gene describes. Make sure
that the systems uses the same System Group so you want have any
disconnections due to system missmatch. Do a display override on the system
used for the ducts that should be displayed with a single line and turn off
the contour line. Now you can draw ducts using the different systems and
even connect them to each other. One limitation is that you can't modify the
system on one segment in a duct run without changing all segements; you have
to draw the ducts with the right system in that case.

Jason: I've posted a zipped drawing in the CF group showing what I'd like to be able to do with a "1-line style" and "2-line style" duct. The thread is called "Duct connection problems".
