Disk space on "C" drive +

1st Question,
A full load on ABS4 appears to require a minimum of 900+MB on my "C' drive even when using the alternate install location on "D". My "C" partition is down to just enough space to load the program with no spare room. Will I have to repartition the drive to allow more room on "C" or is ther a work around. I have plenty of room on other partitions.

2nd. Question,
Page 8 of the Concepts Guide says that "some features from Architectural Desktop 2004 are available." I was under the understanding that the ABS included a fully operational base of ADT4. If only "some" of the features are available, which features are not included with ABS4. My basic question is "will I lose any of the existing features of ADT3 when I load ABS4?"...

3rd. Question,
Somewhere in my reading (either in the Guide or info on the new disk) I read that we can use a parallel copy of ABS3 for only 60 days after loading ABS4. Is this just a function of the subscription program or am I misreading something? I have two seats of ABS3 - would this apply to both seats or could I load my second seat onto the same machine with ABS4 and not have the 60 day limit? The reason for this question is related to Question 2 above i.e.. if ABS4 includes a fully functioning ADT4 then I have no reason to keep ABS3.

Thanks,
John Ostergren

Hi,

1. The content
installed under 'Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk'.
That catalog is in most cases located on the same drive as the operating system.
For a full install of ABS4 it's about 900 Mb.

There is also some files installed under 'Program
Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared' (about 100 Mb). That folder is in most cases
also located on the same drive as the operating system.

You could move the content folders after
installation but it will require that you update your profile with the new paths
to these files.

2. Yes, all features of ADT is available. Read the
thread 'ADT Setup' for info how to set up your ABS to work like
ADT.

3.  It was in the License agreement. Yes,
if this is an upgrade, you can only use the previous version for 60
days.

Lars-Ake,

Thanks for the reply.
As to:

Item #1, I was able to move about 850MB (enu folder) to another drive and reset the paths very easily. Seems to work fine. No apparent slow ups.

Item #2. After I figured out the pull-downs, the set up to use ADT was very straight forward.

Item #3. Since I have two licensed copies of ABS3 (ADT3.3)and this wagon only has one mule (me), and a Subscription for only one seat. I figure that I could continue to run the ABS3 seat without the subscription since it should be totally separate from the ABS2004 Subscription. If this is not correct please let me know before my 60 day limit runs out.

I may need to keep two working copies until all of my ADT3.3 clients upgrade to ADT2004. I have contract clauses that require me to work on and "return" drawing files in their format. Saving as a 2000/2002 file without the objects does not cut it.

Another note: The full 2004 program loaded very smooth and easily. I set it up as am ABS3 interface to make starting out easier. I am also impressed by the smaller files - most of the two dozen or so files that I have already converted are about 40% of the original ABS3 file sizes...

Thanks again,
John Ostergren
