Cable Tray Orientation

Why won't MEP keep the same tray orientation.

I need the open side of the tray outwards all the time, as if I was installing the tray to follow the line of a wall and ceiling. MEP does not seem to be able to understand this basic installation concept.

Cheers

Alan

Its a quirk of mep. It does the same thing for all other trades. Its noticeable on the tray because the top is open. Its a big problem with duct also. You tell a takeoff to be on the bottom of the duct and it will come out the top.

So once again the software is hopeless and bears no relationship to the real world what so ever. I keep wondering how all of these large companies that keep singing the praises of AutoCAD MEP manage, I believe that Revit MEP has the same problem.

Do Autodesk not realise that this is a very common way of installing cable tray, cable trunking and cable ladder? If not why not since I'm told that Autodesk consulted many engineers when developing this software (I don't think so) Or maybe these engineers had never actually been on a construction site!

I have had this issue as well.  It takes alot of time, but I resorted to using 3DROTATE for each piece.  Luckily I didn't have a large amount to do.

2016 released and still no different.

I've got a suggestion, why don't Autodesk just ignore this problem, then perhaps it will just go away?

The E in MEP is and always will be complete and utter bo--ocks.

Regards

Alan
