I'd suggest looking in the tutorials and help files
first.

I gotta say that one of the easiest things to do with ABS is to create mvparts. the only part that gets a bit tough is adding connectors... but once you follow through it once it makes sense. -- I agree with Kyle... the tutorials and documentation will help in this case and anything that i could say would only be a repeat... more or less of the tutorial. -- what is it that you need to create?

A 200 port switch. I need each port to be a connector. I know how to make MVparts but I have been told that electrical devices are not mvparts. That instead they have their own style.

A 200 port switch would be better modeled as a panel than a device. A switch
provides "services" for other downstream devices (data jacks, or computers,
depending on what you are modeling). You would have much better luck
treating a switch as a panel that as a device.

I don't have a whitepaper for creating a device, but there is a description
posted to CF about modifying a schematic pipe fitting. Devices (and panels)
are similar. Take a look in CF for a post titled Spipe Fitting Creation.

SORRY BUT I AM NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN BY CF.

JASON,
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A PANEL AND A DEVICE?

Customer Files (CF) is an area for upload of problem files for
review or sharing. Users are asked to zip any files prior to
uploading to conserve download time and server space.

For NNTP newsgroup readers the Customer-files newsgroup can be
found at
news://discussion.autodesk.com/autodesk.autocad.customer-files.

You may also access the customer-files group via the HTTP
web-based forums at
http://discussion.autodesk.com/WebX?14@@.ee940b5.

A device is an object that connects to a circuit. A panel is an object that
circuits connect to.

It works just like in the real world. Devices are things like receptacles,
lighting fixtures, switches, and data jacks. Panels are panel boards,
switchgear, hubs and switches. Circuits are used to connect devices to
panels.

Yeah, but, you see Anne, one of the major shortcomings of ABS right now is
the lack of content. Can you push on your end for a dedicated "ABS Content"
upload ng? This would help ABS out, and keep cf clean of our library stuff.
