Saveas and file format with various versions

My questions are regarding saving and saveas to the 2000 and 2004 dwg file
formats. We run ABS 2004, ABS3 and LT 2002. We are adding seats of Acad 2004
and LT 2004.

My understanding is this:
ABS04 can not saveas, but can be exported to (xrefs bind), 2000. Is this
correct?
Acad04 and LT 2004 can saveas 2000. Is this correct?

If the above is correct, what happens when you open a ABS 2004 dwg with Acad
2004 or LT 2004 and saveas to the 2000 file format.

The problems are starting to show up with sharing dwgs both in the office
and when sending to clients. I do not currently have access to Acad 2004/LT
2004 to see exactlt what each can or can not do.

I would appreciate being pointed in a direction that addresses this issue.

Thank you,
TEW

What problems are showing up?
Do the non-ABS2004 users have required Object Enablers installed?

Why are you saving down to R2000, when everyone seems to have 2004 versions
of AutoCAD?
I also suspect ABS saves/exports down to R2000 explode or strip information
out, no fix there expect to skip this troublesome roundtrip. Posting in the
correct group discussion area for ABS/ADT would be better than here.

The problems are sharing drawing with our clients. They (some) ARE NOT going
to take the 2004 file format anytime soon. Also, not everybody in the office
will get, or agree to use, 2004 at the same time (don't ask why). So there
will be a time when saveas to 2000 format is required.

OE's and ABS/ADT are not a problem.

As far as I am concerned this IS the right group, as my job description says
CAD Manager, and I must coordinate this issue between the bean counters
($'s) and IT (thinks ABS2004 "is way cool"). I do not have a voice in this
but must make what they decide to do work. Cost of the product and training
are an issue.

So, I need to know If Acad04 and LT 2004 can saveas 2000?

Thanks,

This is my experience with export to 2000:
Ductwork drawings will export all right, so will 3d piping. On rare
occasions wit will fail, though.

Electrical drawings loose all homerun labels. Allegedly, the solution shall
be to quick select homerun labels, explode them and then export to 2000. Is
not so easy. In addition to homerun labels, the round-shaped lighting
fixtures will become a point after exporting. These shall be exploded, too,
but then the wiring is not masked anymore by fixtures. In addition, it
becomes quite cumbersome to explode a group, themn examine, then explode
once more...
I've tried to explode entire drawing and it almost was good, except that the
homeruns lost their arrowheads that could be fouind all over the drawing.

Plumbing (schematic) export to 2000 doesn't work either. Everytime I'm
trying, the ABS will close with orange flame. Exploding the drawing causes
that all fittings disappear.

I would appreciate it this matter was addressed ASAP in next service pack or
release.

From what I have seen, out of the box ABS 2004 can not do a saveas anything.
But, after the service pack was installed, ABS2004 can saveas 2000. I do
not know if you will lose any info, as our whole office uses 2004.

Hope this helps.

You can use

(command "saveas" "2000" "")

if your not worried about losing any AEC info.
