Just installed MEP 2013 - granted 32 bit... but not happy

I just installed MEP 2013... where is the performance I've heard so much about?

Granted this was just a first visit... and it is on a 32 bit XP box just for a first trial... but I didn't expect this!  The command line and cursor movement across the screen is extreemly terrible.

I created a dwg in 2012 and opened it with 2013... the dwg had a couple dozen MEP pipe segments in it... I seemed to take forever to upgrade the entities...

Command line typing is - strick a key then wait15 seconds for the character to show up. It is way clunky.

I hope it is just a fluke...

Any ideas what may be wrong?

It's much faster on 64-bit.  Have you seen it on 64-bit yet?

That will be next... however, on the 32 bit machine... I tried several reboots... I finally uninstalled it... and re-installed.... all is fine now...

there is little to no lag at all...

now I can look at the improvments.

We had some of this same type of lag in 2012 and I tracked it back to video card drivers.

There are 3 key things that can negatively affect performance that are each addressable:

1. Available memory.  A 64-bit OS and plenty of memory will go a long way.

2. Choice of video card and drivers.  Find one on the Autodesk Certified Hardware site.

3. A solid installation.  Disable UAC controls and antivirus.  Save the install file locally and run from the harddrive. Log into "Diagnostic Mode" and install from there,  Be a Full Administrator and also right-click on the setup.exe and select "Run As Administrator." Make sure all hidden and system folders have their visibnility settings turned on in the File Folder view settings.  If you uninstall, delete the folders and files left behind after install, so that the next install goes smoothly.  Don't customize till you try and run the program.

There are many other things that affect performance, but get these 3 right and you will avoid half the pitfalls we see here in support.
