I should add that the network & dwg files are
accessible. I can open them but cannot save back w/o being told that the dwg
is read-only.

This should have been a no-brainier. I did not
appreciate learning that I might not meet the requirements 😉
I found out that when I copied all of the files
from the old server to the new, Windoze 2003 server applied a read-only
attribute to EVERY file and folder. Our company database did not work
either.
I changed all of the access rights on the new
server and things are actually working as I thought they should.
Maybe I'm not a "couple of fries short of a Happy
Meal".
