extend to apparent intersection

At my former job my extend function would extend a line to the apparent intersection of another line. On my current computer the line will not extend unless it will actually intersect the chosen line. I was using 2004 before and am still using 2004. Is there a setting to change this?

I'll bet they figured something out in the 6 years since they asked that question...
