Vertical Alignement Editor

Land Desktop 2007
All Latest Service Packs Installed
Windows XP Pro

I have on two separate occasions now, in two separate and completely unrelated projects, received a fatal error when opening the vertical alignment editor. The error occurs after I select finished ground centerline in the dialog box.

The last time I had this happen(just a few minutes ago) I saved just before going in, just out of suspicion. So I went back into the saved file and not the recover file.

So at this point, I can access my alignment, but only by selecting it and not by name or through a dialog. But the biggest problem is that everything database related to my alignment is write protected and supposedly "Locked" by me.

Is there anyway to stop the fatal errors, or at a minimum "unlock" my alignment.

Thanks for any help,
Scott

So, I did figure some things out on my own.

1. To unlock is quite easy, All you have to do is go into your project folder and delet any file that has the extension ".lk#" this seems to work for any of the database file including alignements, and surfaces.

2. Fatal errors set FILEDIA to 0

Now if I can find out why the crash is happening in the first place, I will really be in luck.

There's an even easier "option" Scott.

Projects>Project Manager then the File Locks button (lower right portion of
DB) will let you into LDT's method of deleting those pesky LK# files.

Just make sure you get the "proper" ones while you're deleting. 😮

In short, no

more specifically I should say not lately

I just tried a project where I had previously used the vertical alignment editor with success, It is crashing along with the other two I am working on. Other alignment, profile and section commands are working, I can edit my alignment by drawing and then re-defining and re-importing my profile but I cannot enter the editor without the error.

The only thing that is coming to mind is that it was somewhat recent that I installed the latest service packs for the civil design companion. Thats the culprit, is my guess.

Then I'll need to ask if you have already installed the CD Companion's SP
Scott?

I'm glad I checked the Knowledge Base, as I hadn't yet seen there was a SP
for the 2K7 Civil Design Companion.

HTH if it's one SP missing from your setup?

I went on about a week maybe two ago and got all the latest, including that one, that is becoming my concern.

Then have you yet tried a Repair of CD?

With all LDT Sessions closed;
Select Control Panel;
Select Add/Remove Programs;
Select Civil Design:
Select Change;
Select Reinstall missing or corrupt files, registry keys, and shortcuts;
On the Next Dialog Box, Select Complete;
Select Next;
Have the release's installation CD ready that you're Repairing - it will be
requested during the Repair.

HTH and after completing the above, may I suggest you then Open LDT, and
check to see that the CD SP is still properly "attached"?

Help>About Autodesk Civil Design (and it may also include the Companion
designation?), then the Product Information button. In LDT 2K4 it's in the
upper-right quadrant of the DB.

If it doesn't mention the Service Pack as being 2, then you'll need to
decide if you wish to install it now?

Decisions, decisions...
:-o

My eyebrows are now in the "frown" position, from reading that portion of
your reply geekmeister. It sounds as if your ARG file that loads for the LDT
app, may have been damaged somehow?

You should be seeing all of the Land Desktop applications instead of the Map
applications.

If you right-click in the Command portion of the Window;
and then select Options at the bottom of the choices that pop-up;
then select the Profiles tab;
which one is listed as the "current"?

And since I now need to leave my Internet access now, I hope that others
will be able to pick up where I'm leaving off here.

Typicaly I have a personal profile that is linked to the shortcut that I use to open LDT, however setting to the default LDT doesnt seem to affect the fact that "about autodesk map" is there

Then it seems that's the real problem - the LDT Profile "should" be showing
the Autodesk Land Desktop data, not Autodesk Map.

Mine only shows About Autodesk Map when I open the Land Enabled Map
application - just so's you'll know.
