Upgrade or wait?

I received my Civil Series 2004 and am ready to upgrade. BUT, I work
closely with another drafter who works in Map2002. He won't be able to
upgrade till after the new year (budget). I've heard it's a pain to work
back and forth between 2004 and 2002, especially if one is LDD (civil
series).

Any advice or suggestions is appreciated...

It really depends...

Scenario 1:
You export your 2004 drawings to AutoCAD 2000 format (thus dumbing down ldt
objects into AutoCAD primitive entities). The drafter likes to see the
drawing in this format. This is the way he wants it. Also, he'll never
send that drawing back to you for you to do some more work on it.
Answer:
You may be okay going with Civil Series 2004. Make sure you install the
latest sp and look at the AEC Editor tab in Options for Export to AutoCAD
options.

Scenario 2:
Drafter wants to actually work with your ldt objects (points, contours,
grading) in AutoCAD 2002. He doesn't want you to dumb the drawings down.
Answer:
Stay with 2002. There's know way the drafter will be able to view your ldt
2004 objects in 2002, unless they are dumbed down thru the Export to AutoCAD
2000 process.

Scenario 3:
Exactly like Scenario 1 except that drafter will give you back your drawing
and you want to work with ldt objects in that drawing just like you did
before you Exported to AutoCAD 2000.
Answer:
Stay with 2002. There's no way you can get your original drawing back the
way it was before you exported to AutoCAD 2000.

If you go with scenario 1, you should test a few times to make sure you both
don't get fatal errors and drawing corruption (consequences that seem to
appear when moving back and forth between different versions and flavors).

Imho, stay with 2002.

Sincerely,

Scenario 2a:
Provider using 2004 and reciever using 2000/2000i/2002 both want to use
intelligent AECC objects:
PUSH2K/POP2K
